Please consider using eduroam
Please visit the Eduroam Help Pages for more information on eduroam prior to continuing.
GTother is a secondary method for connecting to LAWN and only devices that cannot use WPA Enterprise should use GTother as a connection method. Eduroam has many advantages over GTother. Eduroam is the recommended wireless configuration and should be used by all LAWN users.

About GTother
GTother provides a connection method for wireless devices that are not enabled with WPA Enterprise authentication and thus cannot connect to the eduroam network. GTother uses WPA2 with PSK authentication. A Pre-shared key is used when connecting and while it provides a connection to the wireless LAWN network, it does not allow Campus or Internet access until you authenticate via the web authentication portal. For the web authentication portal you will need to log in with your active GT account username and password. For support, contact your departmental support staff (sometimes referred to as CSR), or contact the OIT Technology Support Center (located on the second floor of Clough Commons or by phone at: 404-894-7173).
GTother should be used in the following cases:
- Devices that are shared among users.
- Devices (such as AppleTV, Playstation 3, XBox360, etc) that do not support WPA-Enterprise. Note: Even though these devices can be put on GTother, you will still have to authenticate them. If your device has a web browser, you should be able to authenticate from the device itself. Otherwise, you can authenticate a connected device via the LAWN Portal to enable its network access (you will need to know the device's MAC address). These devices may be eligible for Device Registration
For support, contact your departmental support staff (sometimes referred to as CSR), or contact the OIT Technology Support Center (located in the first floor of the library or by phone at: 404-894-7173).

GTother Configuration
The network name or SSID needs to be set to GTother. Capitalization is important here. This SSID should be visible and available anywhere LAWN is distributed on the Atlanta and Savannah campuses.
- Configure the network security as WPA2-Personal
- Encryption type should be AES
- Enter the Security Key which can be found HERE.
Even after you connect to the GTother network the device will still need to be authenticated at https://portal.lawn.gatech.edu/ from its own web browser or the web browser of another device.
Devices that do not support WPA-Enterprise may be eligible for Device Registration.
GTother uses the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to assign IP addresses to network devices. Static Address assignment on LAWN is not supported for any devices due to the very large number of hosts which use LAWN and the limited number of IPv4 addresses available.
Configuration Examples
Below are examples of how to setup a device to access GTother for the following operating systems, which we are in the process of refreshing. You can also find and report configuration examples for other platforms in the forum at the bottom of the page.
Troubleshooting
Logging in to LAWN with GTother:
- Login Help - Are you using the right username and password? Questions about the login page?
- LAWN Device Login - Logging in a different device
- LAWN Device Registration - Registering a device for automatic login
Looking for GTwireless?
If you are looking for information on GTwireless, that SSID has been retired and replaced with GTother. GTother should only be used on shared devices or devices not capable of using eduroam. Please review all information on GTother to ensure it is the correct choice for your device. eduroam is the preferred SSID for general use. Please remove GTwireless from all device configurations.
